Because it is Breast Cancer Month I have decided to showcase some of my favourite portraits in pink.
These works all feature stunning portraits with a focus on pink.

V.F.’s Hollywood Issue: The Annie Leibovitz Covers
It all began in 1995 with 10 alluring beauties on a three-page foldout cover. With the current issue—fronted by fresh faces Emily Blunt, Amy Adams, Jessica Biel, and Anne Hathaway—Vanity Fair marks the 14th year of its gigantic annual Hollywood Issue, and thus the 14th year of Annie Leibovitz’s spectacular gatefold covers. These classic photographs capture Tinseltown talent and glamour like nothing else. Here’s a look back at all of them. (The left third of each image is what was visible on the cover before unfolding.)

What a great selection - love then all. If I had to choose I would pick the Yeo - those eyes and lips. And where was yours? By the way I'm too scared to take that blog verbosity test because I would be 4,000 times more verbose than the average blogger - it's something I need to get a grip on....soon.

Oh I love the piercing blue eyes in the first portrait, they look so real! :)

    Hello Kim,

I saw this Vogue cover from a magazine subscription of my daughter and I thought it was stunning. The Marilyn poster by Warhol I have a poster of, which was "claimed" by my son a year ago when we were rummaging through some old things.

I've never seen the work of Esther Erlich until today - but it is mesmerizing. There is an eerie yet wonderful essence in her style. The top image resembles Nicole Kidman, is that in fact Nicole?

Have a nice weekend. :-) --Durano, done!

    haha Lilly..
getting a grip on blog verbosity...
I know what you mean...that's a good thing about visual art...the images speak for themselves (hopefully)...
I love the Yeo too...I could stare at it for hours...
didn't include my work as these portraits are in another league...sort of my wish list...
ps our friend Kevin Rudd is paddling past my place today...I'm hoping to get some pics..

it's a stunning portrait isn't it Mariuca...and I love the way Yeo has painted the lips too...such a beautiful pink and so realistic..

the whole Annie Leibovitz series is spectacular Durano...
and yes that would have to be Nicole Kidman although the work didn't have a title...
Yeo was actually commissioned to paint a portrait of Bush...but it was cancelled so he ended up creating his infamous Bush collage with porn magazines (as he recently did with Paris Hilton too)
Esther Erlich is the artist I'd choose if I ever wanted a portrait..I love her style!!
haha your son has good taste...you probably won't get that print back.... ;)

The Esther Erlich one drew me in, it has some of the darker elements I like to display from time to time. I'm not all dark, but life needs an equal measure of the dark and light to balance out. (Hugs)Indigo

  • Kim 20.10.08

    so true Indigo!!
her work is really intriguing and her contrasts between beauty and the bizarre are always so interesting...
she has found a really good balance between the two :)

  • Jackie 21.10.08

oh my Kim I love all of your work. But this one is especially appealing to me.

    Happy summer over there;-)

Hi Agent Laketrees, undercover Painter of Portraits,

Jonathan Yeo's Portrait is so realistic like someone took a photo!!!

Do Pink Portraits trump the Brown Boobs of my Palin-winkle Moose Portrait? ;~)))

  • John M. Mora 21.10.08

Wonderful choices - thank you for the reminder. The top portrait is elequent and elegant, but there is a sadness about this tall engaging true beauty, here and in other photographs I have seen.

  • Kim 21.10.08

    oh Jackie

haha.. Miss MP I think the pink is prettier :0
ah now I've remembered ..Rocky Bullwinkle wasn't it ?

I agree John...she does have a sadness about her...I wonder if it's the paparazzi who have been responsible for this...

I really like Study for a Portrait. It is amazing how it just pops off the page. It is unforgettable. It makes the art look like it is coming to life and climbing out of the canvas.

g'day kim! i'm familiar with all but yeo. very neat technique ( photo-realism over sketching ) which not so subtly focuses on the face. i just discovered a digital artist and yeo's work makes me think of ray caesar = http://paintalicious.org/2008/01/06/ray-caesars-magnificant-3-d-digital-art/

Loved your choice of portraits in pink!
Just warmed up to pink in this latter part of my life and now I love it!
Thanks, by the way, for leaving a comment on my guest devotional on Morning Coffee.
I signed up to follow you.
Question: on my new site, launching in late Nov, I will feature a photo section. Would that qualify me for your artists, photographers sign-up?
Just wanted to know: I am presently taking a college course in digital photography and loving it.
On the new site, I will feature almost daily new shots, along with themed photo albums people can view.
    Very exciting!
Thanks for all you do to encourage other artists of all kinds.
    Love,
    Judi

  • Kim 5.11.08
